In an emergency meeting in Awka, APC stakeholders expressed frustration over what they described as an “anti-party” action, suggesting the appointment could demoralize members and prompt them to defect to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). High Chief Bunty Onuigbo, APC’s South East Zonal Secretary and a member of the APC Elders Forum, expressed concerns that the move benefits a rival party, APGA, rather than strengthening APC’s presence in the region.
Onuigbo criticized APGA’s dominance in the state and accused the President of empowering APGA members at APC’s expense. He noted that APGA has typically monopolized empowerment schemes while excluding other stakeholders. As a result, APC leaders in Anambra intend to formally address their grievances to the state party Chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike, and escalate the issue to the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the APC.
The situation underscores the tension within APC over how appointments are made and raises questions about the influence of national decisions on local party dynamics, especially in opposition-leaning states.
