In response to the ongoing economic challenges faced by Nigerians, Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima expressed sympathy for the plight of citizens, particularly the poor. Speaking at an event in Abuja on October 14, 2024, he acknowledged the painful nature of recent policy decisions made by the Federal Government, stating that while these measures are necessary, they are not popular.
