With the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for October 24, speculation is growing over who will secure the top position.

Mark’s candidacy is being promoted by a group of influential retired military generals, although it remains unclear whether he has officially agreed to contest for the position.

His potential bid has sparked interest due to his long-standing experience and leadership within the party.

Senator Suswam, who is also a top contender, has expressed his desire to bring unity and integrity to the party if elected.

Speaking to THISDAY over the weekend, Suswam said, “Yes, I am in the race to become the next national chairman because I believe that I can unite the party through honest leadership.

“I will ensure that impunity and all that the PDP is negatively known for will become a thing of the past.” He added that his ambition is not a “do-or-die affair.”

Another strong contender is Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, a former deputy national secretary of the PDP and one-time chairman of the party in Benue State.

Agbo enjoys backing from various state party leaders, having previously served as chairman of the state chairmen. As the current Director General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Agbo is reportedly supported by several governors.

Additionally, Utaan, a younger candidate with substantial backing due to his age and fresh approach to party issues, has also gained endorsement from newly elected local government chairmen of the PDP in Benue State, further increasing the competitiveness of the race.

The decision on who will lead the PDP into its next phase will be closely watched, with all contenders offering distinct visions for the future of the party.
