Rufai’s comment comes in the wake of a feud between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who were once allies.

Wike, the political godfather of Fubara, has allegedly made several attempts to disrupt the governance process in Rivers State since his predecessor took over.

As the fracas continues to escalate in the state, Rufai has predicted an emerging one in Edo.

“Another conflict we are waiting to see is between Mr. Oshiomhole and Monday Okhebholo,” he said on the Arise Morning show on Wednesday, October 9.

Senator Adams Oshiomhole was a key member of Okpebholo’s campaign and is credited with his victory. This, however, isn’t the first time Oshiomhole has played a role in the election of a governor in the state.

In 2019, he was instrumental in Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki assuming office until they fell out. Both men have been political rivals since.

According to Obaseki, he fell out with his predecessor over the state burial given to the late ex-Minister of Works and Housing, Tony Anenih.

Speaking to party supporters at Okpujie Demonstration Primary School in Uromi, Obaseki said the former governor questioned the rationale behind his organizing a state burial for the late Anenih.

Monday Okpebholo, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been declared the
winner of the Edo governorship election.

Farouk Adamu, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer, announced the results in Benin City, the Edo state capital, on Sunday.

“I, Prof. Faruq Adamu Kuta, certify that I’m the returning officer for the Edo state governorship election held on September 21, 2024,” he said.

“That Monday Okpebholo of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the election and returned elected.”
