Ferguson has faced the likes of Ruben Dias and Virgil van Dijk during his time at Brighton.
Speaking to ESPN on TikTok, Ferguson has now been asked to name his three toughest-ever opponents, and he gave some interesting answers.
The Irishman stated that Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga is his most difficult opponent ever, while he also namechecked Newcastle’s Sven Botman and Arsenal’s William Saliba.
Indeed, Ferguson stated that Saliba is one of the three toughest players he’s ever come up against.
Evan Ferguson says William Saliba is one of his toughest opponents
Ferguson spoke about the £27m Arsenal star.
“Who are your three toughest opponents?” Ferguson was asked.
“Three toughest, I would say Camavinga, Saliba and Botman,” Ferguson said.
“Who would you say is the toughest?” Ferguson was asked.
“Camavinga, a joke, he’s got everything,” Ferguson said.
Ferguson’s record against Arsenal
Ferguson says that Saliba is one of his toughest opponents ever, but the numbers would suggest that he doesn’t struggle all that much against the Frenchman.
The Irishman has only faced off against Saliba twice in his career, playing a grand total of 89 minutes against the defender.
In that time, Ferguson has one goal to his name, and that is a very good return against a player he says is so difficult to face.
Interestingly, Ferguson has also only ever played 34 minutes of football against Sven Botman, so it would appear these defenders are able to make a quick impression on Ferguson.
Of course, the Irishman and Saliba could ultimately end up being teammates one day. Arsenal have been credited with an interest in Ferguson recently, and a move could potentially be on the cards next summer.
Brighton face Arsenal again in January, and it will be interesting to see if Ferguson can get the better of Saliba on this occasion.
