Speaking at the coalition office along Victory Street by new Benin, they advise all to put on hold the planned protest, as the state is just recovering from the just concluded 2024 Governorship Election in Edo State.
The proposed plan protest is carried out to kick against what the members of the coalition perceive as bad governance, including issues such as corruption, lack of transparency, and inadequate service delivery. The coalition believes it’s better to give room for dialogue in resolving these issues facing the country.
Comrade Solomon Idiogbe, a coalition member, said that a new date would be announced to the general public if the resolution were not to be reached.
Another civil rights activist comrade, Curtis Ogbebor, said it was not the right time to protest and advised all Edolite to discontinue any form of protest at this period.
A female civil society activist, Comrade Annie Umoru, highlighted the potential negative effects the October 1st Nationwide protest could cause, particularly as the state is still recovering from the just-concluded election, showing the coalition’s deep concern for the state’s recovery.
They advise that if the protest is to proceed, it should be done with the utmost caution, and they also appeal to the law enforcement agency to be on the ground to prevent any form of breakdown of law and order, emphasizing their respect for the law.
