On Saturday, September 28, Fintiri attended a grand reception hosted by the Rivers Ijaw Peoples Congress in honour of Wike, alongside Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and other former G-5 members.
This move follows Fintiri’s public endorsement of Ambassador Umar Damagun as the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, despite internal opposition within the party, including from former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, who hails from the same state as Fintiri.
The G-5 faction, also known as the Integrity Group, had previously taken a stand against Atiku’s presidential candidacy in 2023, advocating for a rotational presidency to promote inclusivity in Nigeria’s political landscape.
The G-5 originally consisted of Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and Nyesom Wike (Rivers).
However, Fintiri’s recent alignment with this faction signals deepening divisions within the PDP as the party navigates its internal power struggles.
