Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin addressed the Senate Committee on Constitution Review in Kano, making key submissions on behalf of the Conference of Speakers.
He advocated for the formation of state police forces, citing benefits such as improved local security, community policing, reduced federal responsibilities, increased accountability, job opportunities, and tailored law enforcement.
The Conference chairman also proposed devolving powers from the Exclusive Legislative List to the Concurrent Legislative List, allowing both the federal and state governments to legislate on issues such as solid minerals, labour, drugs and poisons, post, telegraph, telephone, and stamp duty.
Ogundoyin also proposed amendments to Sections 92 and 110 of the Constitution to clarify the process for removing presiding officers in state legislatures.
Hon. Ogundoyin emphasised the importance of timely transmission of the National Assembly’s resolutions on proposed amendments to the 1999 Constitution to State Houses of Assembly across the country.
