BREAKING: Ikeotuonye Demands Immediate By-Election, Says Anambra South Cannot Afford More Silence

A prominent voice in Anambra politics and former governorship candidate of the African Liberation Party (ALP), Chief Imoyeto Ikeotuonye, has challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its delay in conducting the Anambra South Senatorial District by-election.......➡️CONTINUE READING THE FULL ARTICLES HERE.

Since the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah on July 27, 2024, Anambra South has remained without representation in the Senate—a situation Chief Ikeotuonye described as dangerous and detrimental to the zone’s progress.

Speaking passionately to journalists in Nnewi, Anambra State, Ikeotuonye warned that the prolonged absence of a Senator has severely weakened the. zone’s influence at the federal level.

“Without a serving Senator, our people are missing out on key federal projects, constituency programs, and critical national debates that shape our future,” he lamented.

He outlined the far-reaching consequences:

Loss of voice in budgeting, infrastructure, education, and security debates;
Missed opportunities for federal development projects;
Stalled constituency empowerment programs like scholarships, skill acquisition centers, and health initiatives;
Decline in political relevance, especially when crucial decisions affecting the South East are made;
Unresolved conflicts due to lack of senatorial mediation.
Chief Ikeotuonye stressed that with no Senator to push pending bills and motions once championed by the late Ubah, Anambra South risks being left behind.

He criticized the current atmosphere where political aspirants are locked in endless sensitization efforts with no certainty of an election date, warning that the situation breeds frustration and disillusionment among the electorate.

“The vacuum left by Senator Ubah’s passing must not be allowed to linger any further. INEC must act now to restore Anambra South’s voice in the National Assembly and ease the hardship our constituents are facing,” he declared.

Chief Ikeotuonye urged INEC to release the election timetable immediately and conduct the by-election without further delay.
