800m fraud: Court jails ex-Adamawa lawmaker, 2 others

A Federal high court sitting in Abuja and presided over by justice O.A Egwuatu, has sentenced a former member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing Yola South, Yola North/ Gerei Federal constituency of Adamawa state, Hon.Albert sylvanus Atirwucha and one Sabo Mohammed to prison over alleged fraud of N800 million while another accomplice, Ezekiel Namda, is said to be at large.......CONTINUE READING THE ARTICLE FROM THE SOURCE>>>>>

This came two years after the former lawmaker and two property agents, namely: Mshelia Julius and Sabo Mohammed Jimeta, were arraigned on the same offence by the special fraud unit of the Nigeria Police Force for defrauding Hon. Abubakar Baba Zango, a business man from Yola, and currently a member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing Yola North/ Yola South/ Gerei Federal constituency of Adamawa state, to the tune of N800 million.

The police prosecutor, Emmanuel Jackson, a Chief Superintendent of the Police told the court that the accused conspired among themselves to fraudulently sold a property located at NO 3 Bunu Sheriff crescent ,Katempe extension, Abuja, at the sum of N800m belonging to Abubakar Babazango and diverted the proceeds into two accounts belonging to Jitau Investment Limited as well as J.J Holding Villa Limited different from the one authorised by the owner of the property, Abubakar Baba zango.

He further stated that the offence contravenes section 15(2)(b) of the Money Laundry (prohibition) Act, 2011 as amended in 2012 as well as section 1(3) and 1(I)(a) and of the advance fee fraud and other fraud related offences Act No 14 of 2006.

The accused pleaded not guilty to all the charges read to them.

Following their denial, the defendant’s lawyer, Kyari Gadzama, SAN, Kole Bello and J, W. Dong, told the court that their client’s bail applications had been filed and served.

Gadzama further stated that his client, Mshelia Julius Silas, was earlier admitted to administrative bail by the police and he came back to the police for his arraignment.
