One of Nigeria’s former ministers under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan is dead.
Caleb Olubolade, a former minister of special duties, died on Sunday, May 11, his family has said.
Olubolade, who also served as a former military administrator of Bayelsa State, died at the age of 70.
A statement by his children, Akinadewo and Dayo Olubolade, said their father slumped on a lawn in a tennis facility in the Apapa area of Lagos State.
“He drove himself to the facility to play lawn tennis in the evening and slumped while playing. Efforts were made by medical officers around to revive him to no avail,” Olubolade’s children said in the statement.
They also said their father was pronounced dead on arrival at the Obisesan Naval Medical Hospital in Apapa.
Having celebrated his 70th birthday on November 30, 2014, Olubolade was said to have had a distinguished career while serving in Nigeria’s public service.
The Olubolades also said that details regarding his burial would be made public in due time.
