The Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro has said that several members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were disappointed that Ifeanyi Okowa, a former governor of Delta State was picked as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate for the 2023 elections.
While reacting to the defection of the former governor, Moro in a recent interview said he would not like to join issues with Okowa.
He, however noted that a number of party members and leaders who had contributed more to the party were sidelined for Okowa’s nomination as vice presidential candidate of the PDP.
His words, “I will not like to join issues with Senator Ifeanyi Okowa in the first place. Let me tell you that some people felt so disappointed that he was picked as the party’s vice presidential candidate in the first place.
“We found out that there were other persons who have contributed much more to the party; persons who were more committed; persons that would have ordinarily helped the party to win the election, Moro said.
Condemning Okowa’s remark that he regretted being a running mate to Atiku in the last presidential election, Moro said such a comment emanating from a former governor and lawmaker is unfortunate.
He also said that it is uncharitable for Okowa to say he regretted being on a joint ticket with Atiku because he was never forced to take the offer.
“He was not forced, but he asked for it and he was given,” the Benue lawmaker noted.
