He spoke during a press conference in Osogbo, Osun state, on Friday.

Issa-Onilu, who was represented by Olubukola Olorunfemi, the agency’s director of community outreach and development, said the government recognises that the proposed tax has been a source of concern for many Nigerians on issues such as multiple taxation and its impact on low-income earners.

However, Issa-Onilu said the intention of the government regarding the tax reforms is to make the tax system fairer and less burdensome for citizens.

He said the tax bills are designed to create fair, simpler, and transparent tax collection processes, adding that it will visibly improve essential public services like schools, hospitals, and infrastructures.

“These reforms are designed to ease the burden on hardworking Nigerians while ensuring everyone contributes fairly,” Issa-Onilu said.

“By supporting this effort, we can create a tax system that works for all and funds the development projects that will improve our nation.”

On October 3, President Bola Tinubu presented four tax reform bills to the national assembly for deliberations and passage.

The bills, which have passed the second senate reading, are the Nigeria tax bill, the Nigeria tax administration bill, the Nigeria revenue service establishment bill, and the Joint revenue board establishment bill.
