In a statement released on Sunday morning, INEC highlighted its commitment to ensuring the integrity of the electoral process, following the uploading of results on its portal, which has seen various political parties claiming victory.

Mohammed Haruna, National Commissioner and member of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, said the commission is prepared to exercise its power to review results if necessary.

“Following the conclusion of voting yesterday, the Commission activated the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal and promptly uploaded the Polling Unit results. The same results have been collated from all the 192 Wards. Collation has also been completed in most of the Local Government Areas, and designated officials are either at the collation center in Benin City or en route. We are ready to begin State-level collation.”

He further clarified: “For the avoidance of doubt, the collation of results will proceed as stipulated by the Electoral Act 2022 and our regulations and guidelines. There is a mechanism in place for addressing complaints during collation, including the power to review results declared under duress. The Commission will not hesitate to use such powers if the need arises.”

Haruna also urged that accredited party agents, observers, and the media be given unrestricted access to all collation centers, while calling on security agencies to maintain their vigilance to ensure the peaceful conclusion of the process.
