As public calls for the release of popular social media commentator Verydarkman (VDM) from EFCC custody gain traction online, a contrasting voice has emerged.
A Nigerian man identified as Smanuel Jemitalo has stirred debate with a viral video in which he pleaded with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to keep VDM in custody for at least seven days. Jemitalo believes that an extended detention would teach the controversial TikToker a much-needed lesson.
He criticized VDM’s conduct on social media, describing it as damaging to Nigerian youth. Jemitalo accused him of promoting disrespect toward elders and contributing to the normalization of criminal behavior.
Jemitalo further alleged that VDM engages in what he termed “sentimental activism” and uses his influence to harass others online. He pointed to VDM’s reported treatment of the late singer Mohbad’s widow and child as an example of such behavior.
