The party after its special meeting appointed former minister of finance Senator Esther Nenadi Usman as Chairman of its Caretaker Committee.
Her appointment was announced during the party’s expanded stakeholders meeting held in Umuahia, Abia State capital, on Wednesday.
The new leadership which is charged with the responsibilities of rescuing the party from its current leadership crisis will have 27 other members making it a 29 membership caretaker committee.
Usman, who was the representative of Kaduna South senatorial district from 2011 to 2015, will lead the committee in reorganising the party and setting it on a path to electoral success.
The committee has 90 days to complete its assignment, which includes organising a convention to elect new leadership from the ward to the national stage.
The Stakeholders also appointed the immediate-past Senate Minority Deputy Leader, Senator Darlington Nwokocha from Abia Central, as the Secretary of the committee.
They also dissolved the National and State working committees.
The meeting was also attended by Obi’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, Datti Ahmed, Senator Victor Umeh, and Lagos State governorship candidate Rhodes-Vivour.
