Ohanaeze Ndigbo has called on Governor Alex Otti, of Abia to adopt President Bola Tinubu as his candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation made the call ahead of Tinubu’s visit to Abia on May 23 for the commissioning of the rehabilitated Port Harcourt Road in Aba.
The road project, abandoned for over 15 years, was completed under Otti’s administration.
In a statement on Monday, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, deputy president-general of Ohanaeze, said the event presents an opportunity for the south-east to show solidarity with Tinubu’s administration.
Isiguzoro said: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo warmly calls upon the entirety of the Igbo nation to unite in a spirit of solidarity and cooperation behind the south-east political leader, the minister of works, Senator Dave Umahi.
“This momentous occasion is set to be marked by the commissioning of the long-awaited Port Harcourt Road Aba project, a critical infrastructure undertaking successfully developed by the able leadership of Governor Dr. Alex Otti.”
The group congratulated Otti on the project’s completion but urged him to take his support a step further by publicly endorsing the president, just as Charles Soludo, governor of Anambra, did.
The group stated: “We earnestly urge our governor, Alex Chioma Otti, to draw inspiration from the recent commendable actions of Anambra state’s Governor Charles Soludo.
“During President Tinubu’s visit to Anambra, Governor Soludo boldly affirmed that his administration, along with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has officially adopted President Tinubu as their sole candidate for the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
“This decisive stand exemplifies the courage and unity that we, as a people, must now also demonstrate.”
Ohanaeze said aligning with Tinubu would help deepen federal ties and boost the chances of greater development and investment in Abia and the south-east region.
The group called on all residents of Abia and the Igbo community at large to give Tinubu a warm reception when he visits.
“Our actions during this pivotal moment will resonate far beyond the present, shaping the legacy of our leadership and the future of our people,” the group said.
