Cole also admitted that there is ‘something systemically wrong’ with Chelsea’s goalkeeping situation.

Recall that Robert Sanchez established himself as Chelsea’s number one under Enzo Maresca at the start of the season.

Sanchez held off competition from Djordje Petrovic, who was sent on loan to Strasbourg.

But the Spaniard was dropped from Chelsea’s starting XI in their last three games following a series of costly errors.

Summer signing Filip Jorgensen replaced Sanchez in the squad.

But the 22-year-old Dane faced strong criticism after his performance in Chelsea’s 3-0 humbling away to Brighton earlier this month.

Jorgensen also made an error in Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa last weekend.

Speaking on The Dressing Room Podcast, Cole suggested that Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels could solve Chelsea’s problem, adding that the 32-year-old is the best shot-stopper in the Premier League at the moment.

“It’s something systemically wrong because you can’t have nine goalkeepers on your books and not know which one is your number one,” Cole said.

“You have got Kepa [Arrizabalaga] out on loan, Petrovic out on loan, you have bought some young, promising ones.

“If your system works well, you shouldn’t make as many mistakes that have been made with goalkeepers.”

He added, “Do you know who I think is one of the best goalkeepers in the league at the moment? Sels from Forest.

“Mate, I’m telling you. Watch him play. Assured, makes saves.

“I don’t know whether he’s having a golden period in his time but they are out there. You’ve just got to pick the right one.”
