PUNCH Metro exclusively learnt from the state police command on Wednesday that Moses was discovered lifeless, hanging from a tree in a secluded rocky area of the village.
The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, stated that the deceased had allegedly informed his brother that he was going to find a spot with better network reception to make a phone call.
When the deceased failed to return after several minutes, his 47-year-old brother, John Egbe, grew concerned and traced him to the location where he had gone to make a phone call.
Upon reaching the location, Odutola stated that Egbe was devastated to find Moses’ lifeless body hanging from a tree.
Odutola added that a police report from the Olugbo Outstation revealed that Moses’ mother had died just weeks earlier and had yet to be buried in their hometown of Oju LGA, Benue State.
She said, “The deceased left his home in Ogungbade Village early on February 10, 2025, to find better network service. When he failed to return, his elder brother, John Egbe, 47, grew concerned and traced him to the location where he made the devastating discovery.
“Upon receiving the distressing report, police detectives were immediately deployed to the scene. Photographs were taken, and the body was carefully lowered in the presence of family members, who confirmed that no foul play was suspected.
“The family, devastated by the loss, requested that the remains be released for burial by their traditional rites.
Odutola disclosed that the command had launched an investigation despite initial reports suggesting no criminal involvement.
