The discovery was made near a location where the victims were allegedly detained and tortured, the attorney general’s office reported on Sunday.

The grave was found following a raid on a human trafficking site on Saturday night, during which 76 sub-Saharan migrants were freed from detention and torture.

The operation targeted a gang suspected of imprisoning migrants, subjecting them to severe mistreatment, and exploiting them through extortion.

The statement from the attorney general’s office revealed that the bodies of the victims had been buried near the detention site.

Three individuals—one Libyan and two foreigners—were arrested in connection with the crimes.

Photographs shared on social media showed emaciated migrants with visible scars and injuries from abuse, further illustrating the horrors faced by those trapped in the human trafficking network.

Since the 2011 NATO-backed uprising that overthrew former dictator Moamer Kadhafi, Libya has been in a state of turmoil, with the country split between rival governments. A mass grave of at least 65 migrants was discovered in southwest Libya last year, underscoring the ongoing risks to migrants in the region.
