In a statement titled “Effective Policing: Police Arrests Murder Suspect, Recover Exhibits, Makes Other Preventive Arrests,” the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the successful outcomes of several proactive operations.

“As part of its commitment to strengthening national security and curbing crime across the nation, the Nigeria Police Force continues to implement proactive strategies to address criminal activities effectively,” the statement read.

On February 7, 2025, officers from the Satellite Division intercepted a suspect, 24-year-old Wisdom Obi, at Abule Ado bus stop along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. Obi, who was riding an unregistered motorcycle, was found in possession of a concealed brownie pistol and 13 rounds of live ammunition hidden inside an MP3 radio.

“The suspect was taken into custody, with the motorcycle and recovered items documented as exhibits, while investigation continues,” the police statement confirmed.

In another operation on the same day, officers from the Orile Iganmu Division thwarted a traffic robbery attempt at Ascon White Sand area. Four suspects—Kadir Ibrahim, Ifeanyin John, Oduwole Shola, and Rilwan Olajuwon—were apprehended while trying to rob passengers stranded in a broken-down vehicle.

The police urged residents to remain vigilant, particularly in traffic, as criminals often disguise themselves as street traders.

“The police strongly advise citizens to exercise vigilance and be wary of the cunning schemes of traffic robbers who blend in as innocent traffic traders, preying on unsuspecting individuals who find themselves entrapped in congested routes,” the statement added.

On February 5, 2025, police operatives from Ikoyi Division responded to a murder case at Falomo Square, Ikoyi. A heated argument between 33-year-old Okeke Johnchris and William Wisdom turned deadly when Okeke allegedly rammed his Lexus saloon car into William, causing fatal injuries.

“William was rushed to Gbagada General Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries,” the statement revealed.

A team of detectives visited the crime scene, and the deceased was taken to IDH Morgue in Yaba for an autopsy. “The suspect has been apprehended and is currently in police custody pending conclusion of investigations and arraignment,” the police said.

The Force reiterated its appeal to the public to resolve disputes through legal means rather than resorting to violence.

“The Nigeria Police Force uses this medium to caution citizens against violent confrontations and encourage those offended to seek proper redress through stipulated legal procedures. Citizens must avoid taking the law into their hands,” the statement emphasized.

The Force Headquarters in Abuja assured Nigerians that it remains steadfast in its efforts to combat crime and maintain national security. The police urged the public to cooperate and provide timely information to aid law enforcement efforts.

This latest wave of arrests highlights the NPF’s dedication to ensuring a safer environment and reinforces public confidence in the nation’s security apparatus.
