The suspects, who confessed to the crime, were said to have collected the sum of N100,000,000.00 (One Hundred Million Naira) from the lawmaker before killing him and dumping his body.
Recall that some days ago, there were reports that the decomposing body of the late Hon Justice was discovered close to the Niger Bridge in Onitsha, Anambra State, 44 days after he was abducted last year.
The police have released the names of the suspects, who, in an interview, confessed to the crime. They are: Ugochukwu Onuorah, aged 30; Ikemefuna Ossai, aged 20; Ikenna Orugu, aged 27; Chibuike Obiefuna, aged 19; Chinonso Olisa, aged 19; Chinedu Okoli, aged 21; David Ojini, aged 25; and Peter Sunday, aged 20.
One of the youngest among them, Peter Sunday, aged 20, had “NO PEACE 4 THE GOVERNMENT” tattooed boldly on his chest.
Hon Justice Azuka was ambushed by four armed youths on Christmas Eve in Ugwunabamkpa, Onitsha, Anambra State, while on his way to his hometown to celebrate Christmas with his family.
Sadly, all efforts by security agencies to track his whereabouts and rescue him were unsuccessful. He was later killed, and his body was dumped close to the Niger Bridge in Onitsha.
There has been an outcry from families, friends, and the people of his constituency, which he represented. Many are calling for the death penalty for the suspects as a deterrent to others.
The government of Anambra State has issued a directive that any building used for kidnapping purposes in the state should be seized and demolished as one of the measures to curb the high increase in kidnapping cases in the state.
