Officials informed SCORENigeria that this is after several considerations.

Ahmed Musa, who has won a record 110 caps and scored 18 goals, is now playing regularly in the NPFL for Kano Pillars after the mutual termination of his contract in Turkey last year.

His leadership, both on and off the pitch, is the main consideration that would sway the decision to recall him since the 2023 AFCON a year ago.

Former Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro extolled Ahmed Musa’s leadership at the delayed AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.

“William Ekong has done very well as stand-in captain particularly on the pitch in the absence of Ahmed (Musa),” an official close to the team told SCORENigeria

He has scored six goals and made two assists in the NPFL season thus far.
