The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade I, has disbanded an unauthorised coronation committee allegedly formed by a group without his consent.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Ibadan, the monarch warned that any further activities related to the committee would be deemed illegal.
Oba Owoade stressed that all coronation-related committees or events must receive approval from his office.
“Let it be known to all and sundry that any committee or activity being set up or promoted without the prior consent and approval of His Imperial Majesty and his office shall be deemed unauthorized and will not be allowed to exist,” the statement read.
He directed all involved individuals to halt any involvement with the committee, stating that any fundraising efforts for the coronation would be determined by the royal family, who would also decide the composition of any official committee if necessary.
The monarch added, “The efforts of the organisers are appreciated, and they will be informed as events unfold should there be any need for their contributions,” while reiterating that all coronation activities must be cleared by his office before being made public.
