BREAKING: World Bank to Implement $500m Food Security Scheme in Nigeria

The National Agro Allied Commodities Cooperatives Services has announced a six-year partnership with the World Bank to implement a $500 million food security programme in Nigeria. Adeyeye expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support and approval of the scheme, which will benefit farmers in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

She also commended the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, and the Managing Director of the Bank of Agriculture for their swift approval and the release of funds, which ensured timely disbursement.

She noted that these efforts align with the Tinubu administration’s commitment to job creation and enhancing food security.

Adeyeye highlighted the administration’s initiatives, including the distribution of 42,000 metric tons of grains nationwide and the release of 58,500 metric tons of milled rice to stabilize the market.

She encouraged all participants in the agricultural value chain to open accounts with the Bank of Agriculture, emphasizing the focus on empowering youth, women, adults, and the underprivileged.

Adeyeye further announced plans to establish an Agro-Allied Industrial University of Technology in Queen City, Ilu Ajerowaye, via Afin-Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria. The institution aims to promote mechanized farming practices, driving food security and self-sufficiency in the country.

“The university covers a geo-agro space of 500 hectares of already surveyed land, and other benefits include the eradication of youth unemployment, wealth generation through agricultural business, enhanced self-employment, promotion of job creation, facilitation of good leadership, and the provision of food sufficiency through modernized technology and international market exposure, facilitated by training from experts in relevant fields of agro-allied commodities cooperatives in the value chain system,” she said.
