The brother of popular activist and social commentator, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has spoken publicly following his recent arrest by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
VDM was reportedly detained after escorting his mother to a GTBank branch to complain about ongoing unauthorized deductions from her account. The arrest, which took place on the bank’s premises, has since triggered widespread reactions online.
In a video shared via Instagram, VDM’s brother alleged that both the activist and another individual arrested alongside him were physically assaulted and denied access to medical treatment.
“We’ve gone through the necessary channels. They have refused to let VDM and the other go or get treated because information reaching us was that they were badly injured,” he said in the video.
He went further to question the intentions of the EFCC, expressing concern over what he described as a targeted attempt to silence the outspoken activist.
“I don’t know the agenda EFCC has against VDM. But whatever this is, GTBank and the EFCC know how this will end.”
As of the time this report was compiled, neither GTBank nor the EFCC had released any official statement regarding the incident.
