A viral video circulating online captures the moment veteran musician 9ice was momentarily stopped by Governor Seyi Makinde’s security team during an attempt to greet the governor at a high-profile event.
The incident occurred on the evening of May 2, 2024, at the Wema Bank 80th Anniversary Gala held at Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. The event attracted numerous celebrities, political figures, and other notable guests from across the country.
During the gathering, 9ice approached the Oyo State governor but was briefly held back by security personnel. In response, the singer calmly stated, “Don’t push me, let me greet my father.” Recognizing 9ice, Governor Makinde paused to greet him warmly and remarked, “You should be coming home,” referring to their shared roots in Ogbomosho, Oyo State.
